Describe the meaning and salient charactrictics of rural life in india
Answers
Life in villages is still centered around agriculture. Urban India - it is not for the most part.
Most of rural India still faces 'load-shedding' - power cuts - for more than 5-6 hrs a day or more. It is much less in the urban areas - 2-3 hrs a day.
From what I have seen (I may be wrong) in villages, girls are treated with much more respect in public than they are in urban India. This may be because in villages everyone knows everyone else.
That said, life for women might still be more miserable in rural India than in urban India owing to lack of financial freedom and a more patriarchal nature of rural society. This might be true especially in middle class and upper middle class homes if the woman does not earn money.
However, in many lower-income-rural-homes women work and earn bread for the family . If they do so, they enjoy financial freedom and more authority in the household. It is, hence, not so ironical that most of the independent rural women I have seen belong to the lower income groups in villages.
Students in villages go to nearby towns for higher education or in some cases for any education. Same is true for patients and hospitals.
Choices of what to eat, where to go and what to see are limited in villages.
