On the 4th january,the amount of water had been reduced to a few centimeters by the use of electric pumps. The fact of the reduction in the water level land the pleasant weather had relieved the voyagers. But their relief was shortlived as by the time it was four, the clouds started turning dark.The voyagers began losing their hopes.
On The 5th january, the sky was again covered by dark clouds.The Voyagers were losing so much hope that the captain's son (jonathan) had asked his father whther they would die and even assured his father that he wasn't afraid of dying. The fact of son giving such remarks made the captain to put his full effort in bringing their hopes back. That evening, Mary and the captain were sitting and holding their hands with both of them feeling that their end was near. This shows that overall, all the voyagers had lost their hopes.
