Mildendo is the metropolis of the Liliput empire. Upon gaining his freedom, Gulliver goes there and, by decree of the emperor, all villagers are asked to stay inside. They do manage to place themselves in strategic places to watch everything that Gulliver does. In matters of comparison, the tallest tower in the empire would be as high as the skirts of Gullver's coat.
The wall which encompassed it is two feet and a half high, and at least eleven inches broad, so that a coach and horses may be driven very safely round it; and it is flanked with strong towers at ten feet distance.
Due to Gulliver's much larger size, he had to step over gently over the gates. He ends in two major streets that divide the town. According to Gulliver, Mildendo:
Is an "exact square" 500x 500 feet long
Is divided by the two great streets which, in turn, divide the town into four quarters which are 5 feet wide.
There were lanes and alleys approximately a foot wide to eighteen inches.
The town's capacity is 500 people.
Essentially, with the exception of its small size, Mildendo was a booming city like any other of the time. Think London, only much smaller in population. Mildendo had well-stocked stores and markets. All homes had three, four, or five stories (presumably to accommodate more than one family).
At the center of the city, the emperor's palace reigned supreme embedded in an outside court with a perimeter of 40 feet plus two more courts.
