Here is it:
The two boys had faced a lot of hardships and trying circumstances in their life just at their tender ages of twelve and thirteen. They too lost their father during the early part of the war and added to this was the bombardment of their house followed by the hospitalisation of her only sister and care-taker due to her tuberculosis of spine. But, the two boys never lose hope, they decided to face every situation in their life courageously and gentlemanly, because of which only they are entitled as 'gentlemen'.
