Permanent settlement was introduced in 1793. By the term settlements the Rajas and taluqdars were considered as zamindars. They were asked to collect rents from peasants and pay revenue to the company. The revenue was permanently fixed that is it was not be increased in future. It was felt that this will ensure regular flow of money in company's coffers.
