Breaking and drifting of landmasses from the Gondwana land was responsible for the formation of the peninsular plateau.  It ranges from Bundelkhand and Chotanagpur plateau in the East to Western Ghats in the West.  It is spread over 8 Indian states and encompasses the majority of the Central and southern regions of India.
