Sodium hydroxide

Chlorine gas is also produced in this process. Solid sodium hydroxide is obtained from this solution by the evaporation of water. Principle — In castner-kellner method NaOH is prepared by the electrolysis of aqueous solution of NaCl (Brine). ... Na+ ions are discharged in preference to H+ ions due to high over voltage.

Baking soda

The chemical name of baking soda is sodium hydrogen carbonate. The formula of baking soda is NaHCO3. It is prepared by reaction of cold and concentrated solution of sodium chloride with ammonia and carbon dioxide. 1)It is a white crystal which are sparingly soluble in water

Brine solution is electrolyzed,

It gives

2NaCl (aq) ---------->H2 + Cl2 + 2NaOH

For baking soda

NaOH + NH3 +NaCl + CO2 ---->NaHCO3 +NH4Cl

Thus baking soda is formed.
