People were starving, the Kaiser had fled and people hated the government for signing the armistice in November 1918 - they called them the November criminals.

The Weimar Republic was the government of Germany from 1919 to 1933. This government began in the years following the end of World War I and remained in power until the rise of Nazism in Germany. The problems faced by the Weimar Republic are the following:

1. It had to sign the humiliating treaty of Versailles.

2. The Republic which already carried the burden of war guilt was financially disabled by forcing to pay compensation.

3. Both the communists and socialists became incompatible opponents and could not make a universal movement against Hitler.
