The problems faced by the jute industry in India are as follows:
1.There is a shortage of good quality raw jute.
2.There is a strong competition from other countries in the international markets.
3.The use of substitute elect paper, cloth and synthetic material is increasing. It has led to the decline in the demand of jute goods.
4.The machine is old and obsolete; therefore the cost of production is high.
5.Sales promotion of jute carpets and packing materials has not been done properly.

- No well skilled labours.
- Competition with cheap and attractive artificial fibre.
- No proper land.
- Machinery needs to be upgraded.
- Power supply remains eeratic, thereby, affecting production.
