On the surface of these activated platelets, many different clotting factors work together in a series of complex chemical reactions (known as the coagulation cascade) to form a fibrin clot. The clot acts like a mesh to stop the bleeding. Coagulation factors circulate in the blood in an inactive form.

Blood clotting is the process in which state of blood changes from liquid to gel like. Platelets are the blood cells that are involved in clotting of blood. There are other clotting factors too in the body e.g. fibrinogen and albumin that interact with platelets to form clot. When blood vessel is injured, it contracts to limit the bleeding. After this platelets come to the site of injury and form clot to stop any further bleeding. Chemical signal is also released that attract other factor to the site and make platelet plug that prevents bleeding.
