it is the entry of water through a semi permeable membrane in the roots of the plant... it is so because Roots have root hair which increases the surface area so the water is absorbed in the roots through this process called osmosis... it doesn't need energy to do so..

The movement of water from high water concentration to lower water concentration through permeable membrane... EX; plants,roots of plantsetc...
