Explanation:

#1. Separation of iron fillings and sand.

Technique : Magnetic separation.

Take a mixture of iron fillings and sand in a petri dish. Take a bar magnet and bring it close to the mixture. You will observe that the iron fillings will get cling to the magnet and you will be left with sand in a petri dish. Iron fillings having magnetic properties get attracted towards a magnet whereas sand is non magnetic in nature.

#2. Separation of ammonium chloride and sodium chloride.

Technique : sublimation

Take a mixture of ammonium chloride and sodium chloride in a flask. Seal the mouth of a flask with a cork. Heat the mixture inside a flask on a burner or a spirit lamp. You will observe that very quickly a reaction will take place. Ammonium chloride being sublime in nature picks up heat and quickly transform into its vapours whereas sodium chloride doesn't change into its vapour form. The vapours of Ammonium chloride will get condensed and is collected in the side of flask and sodium chloride on the bottom of flask.
