Peat Coal -: Formation is fairly latest. It is produced by decay of plant material in swamps. It has low carbon and high moisture content and low heating capacity. It emits too much of smoke when burnt. It found mainly in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lignite Coal -: Low grade brown coal, soft in nature with high moisture content. Lignite is mainly mined at Neyveli mines in Tamil Nadu and used for thermal power production. Other areas are Assam, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.

Bituminous Coal -: Has been buried deep and is subjected to increase temperature and pressure which removes moisture content. It has 60-80 % of carbon content. It is commercially used as metallurgical coal with special value for smelting iron in blast furnaces. Bituminous Coal mostly found in Chotanagpur belt and in river valleys of Son, Godavari and Mahanadi basins..

Anthracite -: Is of the highest quality, compact and black coal with maximum carbon content (more than 80%). It gives maximum heat, found in Jammu and Kashmir...

I have given you all the details of four Coals..
Hope this will help you....
