India is called the country of Monsoon. But not all the parts of the country get the same amount of rains.Rainfall in different areas of India varies from heavy rains to very low rain. Rainfall variation in its distribution varies mainly because of location, difference in temperature and  relief of the country. Rainfall is unevenly distributed in India. Based on this India can be divided into 4 categories as:

1. Areas of very high rainfall: These areas get more than 200 cms of annual rainfall. These includes North East part, sub himalayan areas, western coast and western ghats.

2. Areas of moderate rainfall: These areas get annual rainfall of around 150 cms. These areas include Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West bengal, UP and MP.

3. Areas of Low rainfall : These areas get annual rainfalls of around 80 cms. These areas include Haryana, Punjab , Gujarat and Eastern Rajasthan.

4. Areas of very low rainfall: These areas get less than 50 cms of annual rainfall . These include western Rajasthan, Southern Haryana, ladakh, Kutcch and Thar desert.
