Gomasthas were paid servants appointed by the East India Company to supervise weavers collect supplies and examine the quality of cloth.
1. Earlier supply merchants often belonged to the same village and had a long term social link with the weavers and the companies appointed gomasthas were outsiders with no link with the weavers.
2. They acted arrongantly, marched into villages with sepous and peons and punished weavers for delays
