Relationship between solute and solvent:

The osmosis is the transfer of solvent from the part region to another region through semipermeable membrane. The movement of solvent mainly depends on the concentration of the solute in both the region. The movement of the solvent is always from higher concentration (solute) to lower concentration (solute).

The main reason of taking place of osmosis is to maintain the concentration of the solute. This is one of the important biological activity.

For example: The osmosis in blood cells leads to hypertonic (cells gain solvent), isotonic (no net movement), and hypotonic (loss of solvent).
