OBSERVATION
- Maximum alpha - particles passes through the gold foil without any deflection that means maximum part of atom is empty.
- Some alpha - particles are deflected from their path that means the total positive charge of atom is centralised and this point is called as nucleus.
- Very few alpha - particles (1 out of 20,000) come out with 180° that means size of nucleus is very small as compared to atom.
DEFECT
- According to Maxwell when electron revolve around the nucleus. Then, it should losses it's energy and fall down on the nucleus.
- The spectrum of atom should be continuous but spectrum of atom is found line spectrum.
