In the story 'The Shady Plot', John Hallock is a ghost story writer and Jenkins was the only publisher of Hallock's stuff. So he couldn't deny him when Jenkins asked him to write a ghost story. Once he meets a ghost named Helen who says how she helped him writing the ghost stories when he hadn't any of a plot and for the purpose organized "the writers inspiration bureau". She also told him about the strike they conducted because of the excessive use of Ouija board. He promised to stop to the people using it. So once his wife Lavinia organises an Ouija board party in which Hallock is considered a traitor and Lavinia decides to leave Hallock forever. At the last of the story there is an encounter of Lavinia and Helen. When she discovers Helen as a ghost then she changes her mind and doesn't leave him.
