Describe the sources to reconstruct the age of Mauryan with reference to the following Indika and Arthashatra

SOURCES OF THE MAURYAN AGE


INDIKA


(i) Indika was written by Megasthenes , who was a writer and a guest in Chandragupta Maurya's Court.

(ii) Indika was written upon Megasthenes's experience in India of what he observed and saw in India.

(iii) The Indika gives us a lot of information about the Mauryan Empire

(iv) The actual Indika is lost but still its parts and writings are conserved among the writings of Strabo , Arrian and Diodorus


ARTHASHASTRA


(i) Arthashastra was written by Kautilya or Chanakya.

(ii) It is one of the most important sources of the Mauryan Empire.

(iii) It is a book on administration.

(iv) It contains ethics of administration , rules of democracy , and other political principles.

(v) It is written in Sanskrit which was popular at that time.
