Describe the state of oscillation if the phase angle is 1125 Degree
Answers
Phase angle is the angle turned by the radius vector from the starting position
Explanation:
Consider a particle vibrating in Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM). Phase (in SHM) is defined as the state of a particle pertaining to its position and direction of motion.
Now, the phase angle concept is as below.
A particle vibrating in SHM has its corresponding circle of reference. To know the phase angle, we need to affix starting position of radius vector at that moment when particle executing SHM is on the verge of crossing mean position.
Please refer to the attached picture for the diagram.
This is the circle of reference for the particle in SHM. Position A is the initial position of the radius vector. At positions B,C,D, etc. the radius vector has turned through angles π/4, π/2, 3π/4...respectively.
We find that all the angles mentioned above can be expressed uniquely as a fraction of 2π.
Phase angle is the angle turned by the radius vector from the starting position. So phase of particle at positions A, B, C can be assigned as 0 (or 2π) , π/4, π/2... and so on.
