Answer:

Jute is one of the important natural fibers after cotton in terms of cultivation and usage. Cultivation is dependent on the climate, season, and soil. Almost 85% of the world's jute cultivation is concentrated in the Ganges Delta.

This fertile geographic region is shared by both Bangladesh and India (mainly West Bengal). China also has a dominating place in jute cultivation. On a smaller scale, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan also cultivate jute.

ANSWER:

JUTE IS A LONG AND SHINY PLANT FIBER OBTAINED FROM THE STEM OF THE PLANT. IT REQUIRES LOT OF WATER AND THEREFORE IS GROWN IN MONSOON SEASON. IT GROWS BEST IN ALLUVIAL SOIL AT THE TEMPERATURE OF 20-40°C.IT TAKES 4 MONTHS FOR THE PLANTS TO MATURE. INDIA, BANGLADESH AND CHINA ARE THE MAJOR PRODUCERS OF JUTE. IT IS ALSO KNOWN AS "THE GOLDEN FIBER" DUE TO ITS SHINY TEXTURE.

STEPS:

STEP 1:

THE JUTE PLANT GROWS MORE THAN 3 METERS.WHILE HARVESTING,THE STEMS ARE CUT OFF FROM CLOSE TO THE GROUND.

STEP 2:

THE STALKS ARE TIED TOGETHER IN BUNDLES AND ARE SOAKED IN WATER FOR ABOUT 20 DAYS.THIS PROCESS ROTS THE STEMS. LOOSENS THE LONG STRANDS OF THE FIBER. THE FIBER IS PULLED OUT, WASHED AND DRIED. THIS PROCESS IS CALLED RETTNG.

STEP 3:

THE LONG,DRIED JUTE FIBERS ARE TIED INTO BUNDLES AND ARE SENT TO JUTE MILLS FOR FURTHER PROCESS.THE FIBERS ARE VERY STRONG AND DO NOT BREAK EASILY.

STEP 4:

IN THE MILLS, JUTE FIBERS ARE FIRST COMBED AND THEN SPUN INTO YARNS.THEY ARE THEN WEAVED OR KNITTED INTO SACKS, BAGS, CARPETS, MATS, NETS AND OTHER PRODUCTS.
