squamous epithelium is flat thin and square in shape. it serves in protection and present on linings of various organs.

stratified epithelium is made of layers of same kind of cells. present in cornea and nails.

cuboidal epithelium is found in glandular ducts and helps in greater absorption by increase in the surface area.

columnar epithelium are arranged in vertical manner and are tall in size. present in stomach and intestines for secretion of enzymes or juices or hormones.

Squamous epithelium is made up of thin, flat, polygonal cells.

They are having disc like structure.

The nucleus is rounded, bulging and centrally located.

They form a structure as that of a floor tile .

The squamous epithelium are of two types :

★ Simple Squamous tissue
★ Stratified Squamous tissue

Location :

They form the lining of nose, pericardial cavity, blood vessels, lung alveoli, coelomic cavity etc .

They are also found in the surface of the skin .

Functions :

• Protection

• Exchange of gases

• Ultrafiltration

• Abrasion
