Air is taken into the body through nostrils. the air passing is filtered by fine hairs and mucous in the lining of passage. From here, the air passes through throat and into lungs. Rings of Cartilage are present in through so that the air passage doesnot collapse. Within the lungs, passage divides bronchi and bronchioles which finally terminate in balloon like structures which are called alveoli. It provides surface area for exchange of gases. Its walls contain an extensive network of blood vessels. The blood brings carbon dioxide from rest of the body for release into alveoli and oxygen in the alveolar air is taken up by blood. Oxygen is transported through haemoglobin present in red blood corpuscles in blood.
