Unlike prokaryotic bacteria, which are the simplest and most primitive type of cell, protist cells are enclosed by a cell membrane, which basically is the outer barrier to the cell, and have a true, membrane-bound nucleus, which is the central command center of the cell and contains crucial genetic information
