Describe the structure of mitochondria and mention it's function ​

Structure of Mitochondria :

  • Mitochondria is a double membrane structure. The inner membrane is folded and it forms cristae.
  • On the inner surface of the inner membrane there are knob like particles. They help in electron transport system.
  • The space between outer membrane and inner membrane is known as perimitochondril space.

Function of mitochondria :

  • Mitochondria is the power house of the cell. They generate ATP and it's a site of Respiration.
  • They provide intermediates for the synthesis of biomolecules.
