The swallow was a nice and kind bird in the chapter "The Happy Prince" as he helped the prince in achieving his happiness by distributing the precious stones and gold leaves from the prince's statue to the poor and needy people.
He proved to be very helpful to the prince and by doing the chores told by Prince to him also made the poor people happy and relieved from the sadness or grief they were going through.
