hiccups are bursts of inspiratery activity. most simple cases of hiccups are come after drinking or eating too much or too quickly. the stomach which is situated right below the the diaphgram , becomes distended and irriates it . this will cause the diaphgram to contract as it does when we breathe in.

sideways. This is the reasons we get hiccups
