The best known system is the FrenchAncien Régime (Old Regime), a three-estate system used until the French Revolution (1789–1799). Monarchy was for the king and the queen and this system was made up of clergy (the First Estate), nobles (the SecondEstate), and peasants and bourgeoisie (the Third Estate).

the French society was divided into three estates. The clergy was the first estate they enjoyed certain privileges by birth along with the nobles [the second estate] which included exception from paying taxes. The third estate was the common people. The third estate had to pay all the taxes to the first two estates. I hope this will help you.
