There torques are:

1. A deflecting or operating torque, Td
2. A controlling torque, Tc
3. A dampling torque, Tv.

The deflecting torque, causes the moving system of the instrument to move from its zero position.

The controlling torque is dependent on the magnitude of deflection produced. The moving system is deflected from zero to such a position that the controlling torque at that deflected position is equal to the deflecting torque.

The damping torque is proportional to the speed of rotation of the moving system
