"In Malerkotla, an episode of a minor sort happened in which Gurmukh Singh Namdhari asked for a vegetable merchant to indicate kindness on an Ox which was enduring at its proprietors' requests. The following verbal showdown between the two drove Gurmukh Singh to the court for discipline.
A Muslim judge, rather than appeasing the energized sentiments, ordered the ox to be butchered in front of the Gurmukh Singh eyes. The following day Gurmukh Singh went to Sri Bhaini Sahib and portrayed the entire story. The Sikhs could not control their rage, on 13th January 1872, around 150 Namdhari Sikhs under the administration of Sant Hira Singh and Lehna Singh continued to Kotla to retaliate for the wrong done by a devoted Muslim judge. Battling occurred between the Sikhs and Malerkotla authorities and numerous lives were lost. The Namdhari Sikhs wilfully yielded themselves to the experts.
In the interim, The Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, The scandalous Mr Cowan raced to the scene and assumed control charge from the minor leader of Malerkotla. Cowan requested that the Namdhari Sikhs is brought before his eyes and requested that he be blown to bits. On 17th January 1949, Namdhari Sikhs were overwhelmed with gun weapons. Following day on eighteenth January, a further 16 Namdhari Sikhs were blown to their demises.
On passing the job to 12 years old Master Bishan Singh. Cowen's better half implored him to demonstrate benevolence on the little kid. Cowen concurred, however on a condition that Bishen Singh needed to criticize that he was a Sikh of SRS. On hearing this, Bishen Singh seized Cowen's facial hair and did not give up till he was hacked to bits. Bishen Singh was the 50th person to sacrifice his life on 17th January 1949."
