Double circulation involves two circulations. They are:-

  • Systemic Circulation.
  • Pulmonary Circulation.

  1. Systemic Circulation - In this, blood completes its circulation from left ventricle to right auricle through the body organs. Here, the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood into systemic aorta which supplies it to body organs other than the lungs through a number of arteries. Deoxygenated blood from these organs is returned to the right auricle through great veins. Right auricle pumps deoxygenated blood in the right ventricle.
  2. Pulmonary Circulation - In this, blood completes its circulation from right ventricle to left auricle through the lungs. Here, the right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood into pulmonary arch which supplies it to the lungs through the pulmonary arteries. In the lung alveoli, oxygenation of blood takes place. Oxygenated blood from the lungs is returned to left auricle by pulmonary veins. Left auricle pumps the oxygenated blood to left ventricle.
