aluminium being a metal of high reactivity can easily displace other metals from their oxides. So it can be used as a reducing agent

Fe2O3 +2Al ---------> Al2O3 + 2Fe

Here aluminium displaces iron from it's oxide. This reaction is highly exorthermic releases so much heat that the metal is produced in its molten form. This reaction is used to join railway tracks and cracked machine parts and is called thermite reaction.
