The various layers of food chain are known as trophic levels, each trophic level increases and only 10% of energy is obtained in each trophic level. But the non-biodegradable chemicals enter the food chain and are magnified in the each trophic level.
The 1st level is known as primary trophic level with the herbivores.eg:small insects
The 2nd trophic level is known as secondary trophic level with the small carnivores.eg:rat
The 3rd trophic level is known as tertiary trophic level with omnivores and higher order carnivores.eg:snake.
The 4th trophic level is known as quaternary trophic level with the predators and carnivores of the top.eg:hawk,human.
