Extract cells from udder of Finn Dorset Ewe ---> starve the cells to stop their division ---> enucleate egg cell from Scottish Balckface Ewe--->fuse the 2 cells and allow the cell to divide--->implant the embryo in the uterus of antoher black face Ewe --> Dolly is born.
Explanation:
The various steps involved in the cloning of Dolly sheep were as follows:
- The donor cells were taken from the udder of a Finn Dorset Ewe and the donor cell was placed in a culture which had very low nutrients to starve the cell and stop its growth so that it becomes inactive and its gene expression is turned off.
- From another blackface Ewe, an unfertilized egg cell was taken and it was enucleated so that an empty egg cell is made available.
- The donor cell and the enucleated cell were then allowed to fuse in the presence of an electric pulse and the pulse allowed the cl to start dividing again as well.
- the resulting embryo after about 6 days was implanted in the uterus of another blackface ewe.
- The embryo is allowed to develop inside the surrogate mother and the resulting sheep was named as Dolly.
