The stages involved in animals and plants differ but there are segregated into three stages which are given below:

Pre-fertilisation process:

• In this stage, formation of gametes and transfer of gametes takes place.
• The female gamete is egg and male gamete is sperm which are formed within special structure.
• The male gametes are mobile and females are immobile. The male gamete is deposited into female gamete.
• In plants, pre-fertilisation takes place through pollination process.

Fertilisation process:

• The process of fusion of male gametes and female gametes is called fertilisation.
• There are two types of fertilisation namely internal and external fertilisation.

Post-fertilisation process:

• The fertilisation form zygote which undergoes cell division to form embryo.
• The development of embryo takes time and it depends on organisms.
• Based on embryonic development, the animals are classified into oviparous and viviparous animals.
