• The process of transformation of animal from being larvae to adult is called metamorphosis.
• As a result of this process, the animal undergoes drastic physical changes.
• Butterflies lay eggs either single egg or in batch.
• The embryo in egg is developed into caterpillar which is its larval stage.
• When a caterpillar is fully developed, it is formed into pupa. During this stage changes in body and legs of caterpillar takes place. There is development of wings in it.
• When chrysalis/pupa is fully developed, the insect comes out as fully grown and colourful butterfly.
