Immunity: The mechanism of body to fight against all kind of infection and microbes.
There are two types of immunity:
1) Innate immunity: The immunity which is not specific to a single type of microbes/infection.This type of immunity if produced before infection.
i) Physical immunity: Immunity provided due to the physical structure and enzyme.
Example: skin prevents entry of microbes, Mucus in respiratory, gastrointestinal help in trapping microbes.4
ii) Physiological barriers: Immunity provided by various fluid present in body.
Example: Acid in stomach, saliva in mouth, tears in eyes prevent growth of micro organisms.
iii) Cellular barriers: Immunity provided by some cellular level mechanism.
Example: leukocytes, netrophilis digest microbes, monocytes creates phagocytosis of bacteria.
2) Acquired immunity:The immunity which is specific to a single type of microbes/infection.And is produced after infection.
Example: The immunity when you get a common cold, the body cell fights against the microbes making antibodies.
