Explanation: During the first world war, Ottoman Turkey was defeated. There were rumours that the head of the islamic world, the Khalifa would have to sign a harsh peace treaty. So this created a lot of agitation amongst the Indian Muslims. So, the Ali Brothers, Muhammad Ali and Shaukat Ali set up a Khilafat Committee. Gandhiji saw this as an opportunity to unite the nation and bring the muslims under the umbrella of nationalism.
