It is a type of refraction, when the ray of light passes from denser to rarer medium such that the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle is called total internal reflection.

When the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle, the light ray gets reflected into the denser medium at the interface i.e., light never enters rarer medium. This phenomenon is called as total internal reflection.
essential conditions :
● Light source must be in denser medium.
● Angle of incidence must be greater than critical angle.
● light ray must start from denser medium.
hope this helps you.
