State of feeling discomfort or disability is known as Disease.
On the basis of duration, Disease are classified into two groups.
1. - Disease which appears for short period is known as Acute Disease. e.g; - Common Cold
2. - Disease which continues for long time or sometimes throughout the life of an individual is known as Chronic Disease. e.g; - Filariasis.
1. - Disease present by birth or inherited from parents are known as Congenital Disease. e.g; - Turner's Syndrome, Klinefelter Syndrome, Alkaptonuria.
2. - Disease acquired during the life cycle of an individual is known as Acquired Disease. e.g; - Tuberculosis, Cholera, etc.
(a.) - These diseases are transferred from one person to another. e.g; - Influenza, Common Cold, Tuberculosis etc. They are caused by direct or indirect contact. Microorganisms which causes diseases are known as Pathogen. Pathogens may belong to different species.
i. Bacterial disease - Tuberculosis, cholera, Tetanus, Syphilis, Diphtheria, Leprosy, Whooping cough, etc.
ii. Viral Diseases - AIDS, Influenza, Common Cold, Rabies, Hepatitis, etc.
iii. Protozoan Disease - Amoebiasis, Leishmaniasis (Kala azar), Malaria etc.
iv. Helminthic Disease - Filariasis (Elephantiasis), Helminthiasis, etc.
v. Fungal Diseases - Mycosis, Athelete's foot, Ringworm, skin infections etc.
(b) Non - Communicable Diseases - These diseases can not be transferred from one person to another person.
i. Deficiency Diseases - Beri - Beri (Vitamin B1 deficiency disease), Survey ( Vitamin C deficiency disease), Kwashiorkor and Marasmus (Protein - Energy malnutrition disease), etc.
ii. Cancer - Cancer is also a non - Communicable Disease.
iii. Injury or Physical damage - it makes discomfort so, it can be also considered as a type of disease.
