The tuning fork when struck shows vibrations .

These vibrations form rarefactions and compressions .

DETAILS :

Sound waves forms crests and troughs .

The sound needs material medium for propagation .

The sound vibrations cause the particles of the medium to move to and fro and hence this causes rarefactions and compressions.

This helps in transmission of sound waves.
