Tolstoy Farm was a place where people belonging to different religions and age resided together. Gandhiji gave adequate importance for the education of the inmates. Bookish knowledge alone couldn't bring out the best in man. In order to make them self-reliant, the inmates were given training in carpentary, cooking, gardening etc. The education system inculcated the values of good charac ter, self-reliance, social harmony, co-operation etc.
