1. Because of the lack of water, desertscannot support much vegetation. ... so duringthe night when the sun is not shining the sand loses all its heat, making the desert night cold. Sand is the biggest reason why deserts are hot during the day and cold during the night.

ANSWER:

The reason behind the very hot as well as very cold nights as experienced in the desert are the sandy soil present in the desert.

EXPLANATION:

The sandy soil of the desert are loose and have excess intermolecular spaces to be bound as a unit. They are much granular and so traps heat inside the intermolecular spaces in the day time leading to very hot temperature. In the night time, in absence of sun heat, instantly loses the hot air and thus becomes cool and cooler during the nighttime.
