Question :

Find normal reaction and acceleration of block.

Diagram : Refer to the attachment.

Answer :

We know that, Horizontal component of force is responsible for motion of block.

Here force acts at angle θ with horizontal direction.

Therefore horizontal component of force will be Fcosθ and vertical component will be Fsinθ.

As per newton's 2nd law of motion,

  • Force = Mass × Acceleration

➝ Fcosθ = m × a

a = Fcosθ/m ___ (I)

Since block moves towards horizontal direction only we can say that,

➝ N + Fsinθ = W

Where W denotes weight of block

➝ N + Fsinθ = mg

N = mg - Fsinθ ___ (II)
