In standard form

a {x}^{2}   +  bx + c

Given equation can be written as

1 {y}^{2}  - 1y + 0

the degree of a polynomial is the highest of the degrees of the polynomial's monomials (individual terms) with non-zero coefficients

Hence the degree is 2
