Determine the change in volume of 6 litre of alcohol if the pressure is decreased from 200cm of Hg to 75 cm of Hg (Velocity of sound in alcohol -1280 m/s, density of alcohol=0.81 gm/cc
density of Hg=13,6 gm/ce g=10ms )

Answer:

Given,

Volume 1 (V₁) = 6 l

Pressure 1 (P₁) = 200 cm of Hg

Pressure 2 (P₂) = 75 cm of Hg

By Boyle's Law,

P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

= (200*6) = (75*V₂)

= 1200 = 75V₂

= 16 l = V₂

The New Volume will be 16 litres.

The Change in Volume was = (16-6) l = 10 litres

I hope this helps.
