The answers for a and b are as follows :

a) 22 \times 10^2 \pm 10 %%

b) 47 \times 10^1 \pm 5 %%

Explanation :

  • Resister colour coding uses coloured bonds to quickly identify a resistor's  resistance value ad its percentage of tolerance with the physical size of the resistor indicating its voltage rating .
  • The first two colours signify digits .
  • The 3rd colour signifies multiplier .
  • The 4th colour tells about the tolerance of the resistor .
  • The resistor colour codes are always read starting from the let to the right.
  • The larger width tolerance band oriented to the right side indicates tolerance .

So, for part a :

 Tolerance for silver = 10 %  and multiplier for red = 2

Hence , resistance = 22 \times 10^2 \pm 10 %%

And also for part b :

Tolerance for gold = 5 % and multiplier for brown = 1

Hence , resistance = 47 \times 10^1 \pm 5 %%
