Hello buddy,
This is some sort of experiment.
◆ Prerequisites -
You have know following things before measuring the thickness of glass-
- Distance between legs of spherometer
- Least count of spherometer
◆ Measuring thickness of thin glass plate-
1. Raise the screw sufficiently upwards and place the spherometer on glass plate.
2. Now rotate the screw down until its tip just touches the glass plate.
3. Two readings are taken, pitch scale reading (PSR) and head scale reading (HSR).
4. Total reading is calculated by-
Total reading = PSR + HSR×LC
5. Readings are taken 5-6 times and mean is obtained as *a*.
6. Then, given glass plate is put between top of screw and plane glss plate.
7. Again steps 1-4 are repeated 5-6 times and mean reading is obtained as *b*.
8. Thickness of the given plate is therefore,
t = b-a mm
Hope this helps...
