DEtermine the value of the equilibrium constant for the recation a+2b=2c if 1.0 mol of,2.0 mol of b,3.0mol of c are placed in a 1.02 veseel and allowed to come to equilibrium.the the final concentration of c is 1.4 mol/L.
Ans is: | Concentration | A | 2B | 2C |
| Intial (I) | 1.0mol/L | 2.0mol/L | 3.0 mol/L |
| Chargre | +X | +2X | -2X |
| Used up | 1.0+0.8=1.8 | 2.0+1.6=3.6 | 3.0-1.4=1.6 |
| Equilibrium (E) | 1.8 mol/L | 3.6 mol/L | 3.6 mol/L |
Equilibrium Concentrations of A,B and C are
[A] = 1.8 mol/L
[B]= 3.6 mol/L
[C]= 1.6 mol/L
Equilibrium constant is given by
Kc = [C]^2 /[A] [B]^2
= [1.4]^2 /[1.8][3.6]^2
=8.4*10^2

Instead, it is extracted by electrolysis. The ore is first converted into pure aluminium oxide by the Bayer Process, and this is then electrolysed in solution in molten cryolite - another aluminium compound. The aluminium oxide has too high a melting point to electrolyse on its own.
