Determine the values of a and b in the following if:

(i) (x - 3) and (x + 1) are factors of x ^ 3 + ax ^ 2 + bx + 9.

(ii) (x + 1) is a factor of 2x ^ 3 + ax ^ 2 + bx - 2 and when this polynomial is divided by (x + 2) the remainder is -12.
